Eugene pest control

We are Oregon's top experts in wildlife and raccoon control. We are not a typical Eugene raccoon control or pest control company. We don't treat wild animals like insects, because they are not! You can't just use poison to get rid of them. You also can't just set a few traps on the ground and call it good. Each situation is unique. And remember, if you have raccoons living in your house, it is almost certainly a female with a litter of young inside. These juveniles must be removed by hand, or they will starve to death and die. And after they are gone, the entry holes into the house must be sealed with professional repairs. Unlike most Eugene pest control, we focus on complete and permanent solutions, by following these steps:

  • Inspect the entire house, ground to roof, and the attic
  • Seal shut all entry areas with professional grade steel
  • If in attic, we remove the baby raccoons by hand
  • Technical and human raccoon trapping appropriate to situation
  • When necessary, we clean raccoon droppings and replace insulation

Eugene Raccoon Control Tip: An Exploration Of The Raccoon's Diet
The raccoon is one of the species in the United States that has adapted best to the huge change in the environment that has been caused by a large growth in human population over the last few centuries. One of the key ways in which they have been able to adapt to these changes is that their diet is quite flexible, and they can thrive on almost any food sources that are available. The diet of urban raccoons will often be quite different to those of raccoons living in rural areas, simply because the type of food that is available is different in those urban areas.

Fruit And Vegetable Matter
In rural areas, the around a third of the raccoon's diet will be made of vegetable matter, and they can be quite flexible in the types of food that they are able to pick from the plants in their habitat. Raccoons can eat nuts and fruit, and will often have a preference for berries if there is abundant food present, while they can also eat other vegetable matter such as grasses or young plants if they are struggling to find food.

Meat And Other Small Animals
The rest of the rural raccoon's diet is made up of smaller animals, and generally raccoons are very good at finding those worms and insects living beneath the surface, with these animals often making up much of its diet. They can also eat small animals such as birds and amphibians, but generally tend to stick to the food sources that are easiest to catch for them. When they encounter the opportunity, they will also eat any eggs that they find in a bird's nest, which provide an easy source of food when they find them.

How Does The Raccoon Diet Vary In Urban Areas
The diet of raccoons in urban areas are quite different to those in rural areas, as the foods they eat are more likely to be dictated by what is available. However, in many urban and suburban areas they may still be able to get plenty of fruit and vegetable matter, with trees in parks and gardens often providing plenty of sources of fruit for hungry raccoons. The majority of their diet will however be made up from what they will be able to scavenge from the garbage that is put out, which means that they will often have a higher proportion of meat in their diet than rural raccoons, but also significantly more processed foods that are generally preferred by people.

When Will Raccoons Be Scavenging?
In rural areas, the raccoon is almost always nocturnal, as this gives it the cover of darkness as an extra layer of protection against the predators that will hunt them. In urban areas, they are also likely to be nocturnal, where they will be less likely to come into contact with people, which they will perceive as a threat. However, in some cases, raccoons can be spotted scavenging during the day, and in some cases if particular food sources are available at a certain time of day, they can also change their habits to take advantage of that.

Dealing With A Raccoon Problem Around Your Property
In some cases, raccoons may actually find a way into a cavity in your property, and then start to build a nest there. In these cases, you should install a trap and try to relocate the animals as soon as possible. While you may not be too annoyed at them stealing food from your garden, they can actually pose a significant health risks, so take the appropriate precautions and then lay a trap so you can remove the raccoon problem.
